killed after being run over by his dad after he climbed out of car because he wanted to go swimmingA four-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a car driven by his own dad, an inquest heard. Barnaby Cork had originally said he was going to pick a Christmas tree with dad Stefan, 45, while mum Ella, 33, and his two siblings went for a swim. But the youngster changed his mind in the leisure centre car park and got out of the car with his mum telling him to wait on the pavement. Stefan, a financial services director, got back into the car and started to reverse while his wife saw only two siblings on the pavement, the coroner said. Pre-school director Ella asked where Barnaby was and one of the siblings pointed towards the road where he was lying. Barnaby was airlifted from Thame Leisure Centre, in Oxfordshire, to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford but passed away later the same day on December 10. Darren Salter, coroner for Oxfordshire, said: Barnaby unbuckled his seatbelt and wanted to go swimming. Ella took him from the vehicle and told him to wait on the pavement. Stefan and Ella walked to the drivers side and it was decided Stefan would go and pick up the Christmas tree. Stefan got back into the car and started to reverse. Ella walked around the front of the car and saw only two siblings on the pavement. She asked where Barnaby was and one of the siblings pointed towards the road where Barnaby was lying.
