rs favourite Glenn CloseThe Independent Spirit Awards 2019 saw success for Oscars favourite Glenn Close. The star of The Wife took home the award for Best Female Lead at the 34th Independent Spirit Awards (February 23), the night before the Oscars ceremony where she currently stands as the favourite to win Best Actress. Glenn Close accepted on stage, with her pet dog Pip joining her for some amusing scenes. Meanwhile, If Beale Street Could Talk won in multiple categories, including Best Feature and Best Director for Barry Jenkins - who was snubbed at the Oscars. Regina King took home Best Supporting Female for If Beale Street Could Talk, currently predicted to win in the equivalent category at the Academy Awards. Best Male Lead went to First Reformed star Ethan Hawke, who was not nominated for an Oscar, while Best Supporting Male was awarded to British actor Richard E. Grant for Can You Ever Forgive Me? Grant is predicted to lose out at the Oscars to Green Book star Mahershala Ali, who was not nominated here. Netflix domestic drama Roma took home Best International Film here and currently stands as the favourite to win Best Picture, Best Director and Best Foreign
